No battery to ruin :) and probably I’ll go with the iMac when they renew it.īelkin express dock was certified in any way and sold at apple store so I always suspected from LG monitor. Now I have sold my MBP with a new battery and I have bought a Mac mini. When I got my first 'IBM compatible' it had a 14' CGA monitor. It had a 13' or 14' monitor, connected via composite video lead. I don’t know it laptops from 2011 were better than the ones from 2016, or if using third party chargers ruined my battery, but my personal experience tells me that OP is right and some brands or third party adapters can ruin the battery in some ways. Reading these comments, it reminds me of when I got my first computer, a Commodore 64.

My battery had 260 cycles (far from the 1000 cycles Apple tell you can use it usually) so yes, something ruined my battery. In the beginning of 2019 I had to replace my laptop battery because it didn’t last more than 30-60 minutes and I started having a message telling me to replace the battery. Sometimes I used it opened on a laptop stand and other times closed. I moved it from home to the office every day but I used it in clamshell mode attached to one display or the other. I used this laptop for two years mostly plugged it between the belkin dock and the LG monitor all the time. I started using it at home with my Thunderbolt Display with an adapter but because it won’t charge the laptop anymore, I bought a Belkin thunderbolt 3 express dock to use it in combination with my display at home and also I bought a LG 27ud88w monitor with usb-c for the office. In 2016 I bought the recently launched MBP with the Touch Bar. I used this laptop in combination with another MacBook Air 11” with the Thunderbolt Display and their original chargers for years and I didn’t notice problems with the batteries. Next year o bought a Thunderbolt Display 27” and used it mostly of the time plugged to the monitor in clamshell mode. When I bought my first MBP 13” I started using it as a laptop with its charger.
